PMP (Project Management Professional) is a certification offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI). A PMP applicant needs to pass the PMP exam to acquire the certification. As of August 2019, there were over 932,000 certified PMPs in the world. The certification is a statement that the PMP certification holder has acquired enough knowledge and experience to work as a seasoned project professional.

PMP is one of the most sought after certifications in the business world.

There are two main requirements of eligibility to take the PMP certification exam.

Education: A minimum of 35 contact hours of formal training in project management

Experience: The number of hours required depends on years of formal education as given below.

  1. At least 7,500 hours over a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 8 years when the PMP applicant has a high school diploma or an associate degree.
  2. At least 4,500 hours over a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 8 years when the PMP applicant holds a 4 years’ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent or postgraduate education.

There are two main requirements to be eligible to take the CAPM certification exam.

A secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or the global equivalent)

23 hours of project management education completed by the time you sit for the exam.

If you are a PMI member when you register for the exam, the cost is US$ 405 + applicable taxes. For non-members, the cost is US$ 555 + applicable taxes.

The PMI membership fee is US$ 129 + applicable taxes for one year plus US$10 when joining PMI the first time.

Note: Please check PMI website for the current fees.

You can begin the application process by going to PMI Certifications and starting a new application. Please also read the PMP Credential Handbook available in pdf format at the PMI website.

We highly recommend that you check if you meet the education and experience requirements before starting your application. If you do not have the 35 hours of formal training in project management, then you should take a PMP course to collect hours and also get on your way to prepare for the exam.

Our course will not just provide you the required hours but will also help you prepare for the exam.

Our courses and training provide contact hours and PDU (Professional Development Unit) that are recognized by PMI. A certification applicant will receive contact hours that meet the education requirement of relevant certifications. On the other hand, a certified PMP will get PDUs that meet the CCR (continuing certification requirement) for relevant certifications.

Absolutely. We encourage our clients to hold in-house training session if they have 5 or more participants. The main reason is that it helps focus on your organization and your industry specific issues, problems, and challenges. Your employees will find it easy to discuss their specific issues.

However, there are also benefits in attending a public course. The biggest value is that you get to see what are best practices, issues, and challenges being faced by other organizations and/or industries.
