PMP (Project Management Professional) is a certification offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI). A PMP applicant needs to pass the PMP exam to acquire the certification. As of April 2021, there were over 1,000,000 certified PMPs in the world. The certification is a statement that the PMP certification holder has acquired enough knowledge and experience to work as a seasoned project professional.

PMP is one of the most sought after certifications in the business world.

 

There are two main requirements of eligibility to take the PMP certification exam.

Education: A minimum of 35 contact hours of formal training in project management

Experience: The number of months required depends on years of formal education as given below.

  1. At least 60 months when the PMP applicant has a high school diploma or an associate degree.
  2. At least 36 months when the PMP applicant holds a 4 years’ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent or postgraduate education.

Only the last 8 years of experience is eligible from the day you submit your application.

There are two main requirements to be eligible to take the CAPM certification exam.

A secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or the global equivalent)

and

23 hours of project management education completed by the time you sit for the exam.

If you are a PMI member when you register for the exam, the cost is US$ 405 + applicable taxes. For non-members, the cost is US$ 555 + applicable taxes.

The PMI membership fee is US$ 129 + applicable taxes for one year plus US$10 when joining PMI the first time.
